Today you start on a journey of transformation to become an adventurer for life. Your Adventure Rx prescribes outdoor trail prescriptions to better mental and physical health. Let’s use hiking as a metaphor for your life. Your Adventure Rx will lead you down a hiking path towards personal change. If you are not 100% happy with your life, then follow me in nature towards the peak of your personal mountain. We will walk along concepts to bring you into a better state of mental and physical health, and well-being.
When you go mountain climbing, you need to prepare beforehand in order to be successful. You will need to be in good walking condition, check out the weather, and prepare supplies and fill our water storage. Most importantly you need to make sure you have enough energy to sustain the day’s journey. Much like in life, you need to prepare to be successful. Samples might be using a planner, hiring a coach, or working out at a gym.
If you set out on this journey and your personal batteries are almost dead; what do you think the chances of success are? Let’s walk down the path together because friends are always welcome on long hikes.
Let’s prepare you for what’s ahead. The weather forecast is for clear skies all day and it’s a perfect temperature to start your climb. You’ll be focusing on finding your true north and becoming the leader of your life instead of just a participant. The nature trail is right out your door and all you have to do is put on your shoes and grab your pack.
If you have never gone hiking before you may feel a little uncomfortable at first. That’s okay. If you translated that feeling into a social situation, the same could be true. Once you start walking the anxiety fades and you start to enjoy the scenery and all Mother Nature has to offer. It’s the same idea in an uncomfortable social setting. Once you meet someone, you feel better and the anxiety you once carried about the situation has lost its power. The power of your adventures will allow you to be confident and build
meaningful relationships and have more significant engagements.
Are you ready for your hike? Grab your pack, a snack and some water – let’s go. Here is the first step in your trail prescription to better mental and physical health.
Focus On Yourself
It’s a simple concept but so many of us don’t know how to do this. We put our co-workers, family and friends wishes before our own. Before you know it, you have no energy left for yourself. The one important life lesson I learned many years ago as an outdoor guide is that you need to take care of yourself first. It sounds selfish but taking care of yourself properly means that you have the strength to take care of others and their needs. If you fail to take care of yourself, you will fail at meeting anyone’s needs. You could be putting yourself at risk you potentially risk the safety of others. Your personal health and well-being are your number one priority in life. People will look up to and depend on you. You are their leader and their strength if you role model self-care.
Start practicing today. Take time now to start focusing on you without guilt. When you start focusing on number one, the rest will start falling into place. True adventurers know that making sure #1 (You!) is functioning at full capacity at all times is essential in order to be a leader.
